The <b>generic drug dichloroacetate</b> is an orally available small molecule that, by inhibiting the pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase, increases the flux of pyruvate into the mitochondria, promoting glucose oxidation over glycolysis. This <u><i>reverses the suppressed mitochondrial</i></u> apoptosis in cancer and <b><u>results in suppression of tumour growth</u></b> in vitro and in vivo.</div>

<h3>
DCA kills cancer cells and shrinks tumours</h3>
Unfortunately, there was no support forthcoming from pharmaceutical companies for clinical trials because DCA is a widely available chemical and cannot be patented. Nevertheless, it had been in use for more than 30 years with a good safety record, and there was a strong case for testing the drug in human cancer patients.<br />
<h3>
Results Of First <u>Clinical Trial Promising</u></h3>
With funding from private foundations and public donations as well as the Canadian National Institutes of Health, the team c<b>arried out the first clinical trial on five patients with glioblastoma</b> (<u>a fast-growing malignant brain tumour <b>nearly always fatal</b></u>), and the results were published in 2010 [2]. Of the five patients treated, <u><b>one </b>of the three with terminal cancer <b>died </b>after 3 months on DCA</u>, <b><u>but the rest were clinically stable at month 15</u></b> of <b>DCA therapy</b>, and still alive at month 18. Three of the patients showed some <u>evidence of the tumour shrinking on magnetic resonance imaging</u>. The results were promising.<br />

<div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
Canadian scientists tested this dichloroacetate (DCA) on human's cells; <b>it killed lung, breast and brain cancer cells and left the healthy cells alone.</b> It was tested on Rats inflicted with severe tumors; their cells shrank when they were fed with water supplemented with DCA. The drug is widely available and the technique is easy to use.<br />
<br />
In human bodies there is a <b>natural cancer fighting human cell</b>,<b> the mitochondria</b>, but they need to be triggered to be effective. Scientists used to think that these mitochondria cells were damaged and thus ineffective against cancer. So they used to focus on glycolysis, which is less effective in curing cancer and more wasteful. The drug manufacturers focused on this glycolysis method to fight cancer. This DCA on the other hand doesn't rely on glycolysis instead on mitochondria; it triggers the mitochondria which in turn fights the cancer cells.<br />

<h2>
Ketogenic Diet Beats Chemo For Almost All Cancers</h2>
The low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet can replace chemotherapy and radiation for even the deadliest of cancers, said <i style="font-weight: bold;"><u>Dr. Thomas Seyfried</u>, a </i><b>leading cancer researcher</b><b><i> and </i>professor<i> at Boston College</i></b>.<br />
<br />
In an exclusive interview, Dr. Seyfried discussed why the ketogenic diet has not been embraced by the medical community to treat cancer despite its proven track record both clinically and anecdotally.<br />
<br />
"The reason why the ketogenic diet is not being prescribed to treat cancer is purely economical," said Dr. Seyfried, author of Cancer as a Metabolic Disease. "Cancer is big business. There are more people making a living off cancer than there are dying of it."<br />
<br />
Radiation Therapy Is a Gravy Train for Hospitals<br />
<br />
According to Seyfried, the medical community is reluctant to publicly acknowledge the efficacy of the ketogenic diet for preventing and treating cancer because doing so would cut off the massive streams of revenue hospitals generate from chemotherapy and radiation treatments.<br />
<br />
It's a simple economic issue. There's no money in it for the hospitals, doctors, and drug companies to prescribe a ketogenic diet when they can make hundreds of millions of dollars from the standard of care. Radiation therapy is a huge revenue generator for hospitals."<br />

Erupting in laughter, Johnny Carson listens to Mona Abboud of Sleepy Hollow sing her funny Christmas song, "The Pretty Little Dolly." That show aired on Dec. 15, 1966, but Abboud's performance is the chosen clip <a href="http://www.johnnycarson.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.JohnnyCarson.com</a>

<br />
<br />
‘Pretty Little Dolly’ on video<br />
<br />
For the first time in 44 years, people who have laughed at hearing the audio version of the hilarious “Pretty Little Dolly” song can see it actually being performed, too.<br />
<br />
The song was done by Sleepy Hollow voice-over actress Mona Abboud back in 1966 while she was guesting on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.” Abboud pretended to be a little girl asking Santa, in the form of a song, for a doll that, among other things, peels when she gets sunburned and screams in pain when you break her leg. The little girl starts with sweet, innocent Shirley Temple cuteness but slowly segues into maniacal evil. “You put a plastic bag around her head, she’ll choke, turn purple and die,” the girl sings. She ends with a threat to Santa’s life if he doesn’t deliver the goods on Dec. 25.<br />

Though an audio recording of that bit often gets played on radio stations at Christmas time, the video has been unavailable. But when Abboud learned recently that Johnny Carson’s family was putting more of his show’s classic moments on DVDs, she reminded them of the bit. Since last week, when anyone calls up <a href="http://www.johnnycarson.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.johnnycarson.com</a>, the first thing they see on the home page is a still photo of Johnny talking to Mona. You can click on a link to see the entire performance on video.<br />
<br />
“A friend once told me that some people are just known all their life for one thing, and maybe ‘Dolly’ is my thing,” Abboud says. She’s thrilled by the website, but says she wishes the selection had shown Carson’s reaction better. He hadn’t been told by his staff what the song would be like — only that his guest was a specialist in doing children’s voices.<br />
<br />
The skit also has been preserved on YouTube, as have videos of several people pretending to be the same little girl as they mime along to Abboud’s recording.<br />
<br />
Just search for “Mona Abboud” and “Pretty Little Dolly.”<br />

Globally, about 170 million people are infected with hepatitis C; the disease kills 350,000 people annually. Approximately 4 million Americans are infected with hepatitis C.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiro5AtWD-tSotugo8k9SVMubzFbdtrd8_EkhoEg2GUFXadDZYUvJ-mLY4giz46M8alU6yh7PSbr7EJPpmHMkDoAaqlR0ELx40ox8ZxfD9IhFbJVw4xdiXlXYNPr4HCEHPwMZFxwKG8Bq0/s1600/Hepatitis+C+-+Finally+A+Cure!+-+Medical+Breakthrough.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiro5AtWD-tSotugo8k9SVMubzFbdtrd8_EkhoEg2GUFXadDZYUvJ-mLY4giz46M8alU6yh7PSbr7EJPpmHMkDoAaqlR0ELx40ox8ZxfD9IhFbJVw4xdiXlXYNPr4HCEHPwMZFxwKG8Bq0/s1600/Hepatitis+C+-+Finally+A+Cure!+-+Medical+Breakthrough.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Until recently, treatment for hepatitis C fell into the good-but-not-great category, with only around 70 percent of patients being cured. And that was after as much as 48 weeks of a strict anti-viral drug regimen, including injections of interferon—which causes a number of debilitating side effects (loss of vision, sepsis, heart failure, and leucopenia.).<br />
<br />
Sofosbuvir is a much more potent killer of hepatitis C, with success in as many as 95 percent of patients. Even more, the medication only has to be administered for half of the time and has a remarkable safety profile.<br />
<br />
Sofosbuvir is the first compound in the NS5B polymerase inhibitor class. It interferes with the virus’s ability to replicate and make proteins. Sofosbuvir, is offering impressive cure rates for Hepatitis C patients with two subtypes of the disease – 93% among those with genotype 2 and 61% among participants with genotype 3.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YI_XlHokmHk?rel=0" width="100%"></iframe>
This is the first time in medical research that we have a cure for a viral disease. Both the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended approval of Sofosbuvir. The new potent antiviral drug combo (Sofosbuvir combination with ribavirin) may eventually replace interferon use for the majority of patients with hepatitis C.<br />
<br />
The prevalence of hepatitis C infection ranges from 0.4 to 3.5 per cent among the European member states. Often patients have no symptoms, so the majority of hepatitis C infected people don’t know they are infected.<br />
<br />
The hepatitis C virus spreads by contact with infected blood, such as injection drug use, sexual contact or through blood transfusions. Hepatitis C, if left untreated, can progress to cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure.<br />
<br />
Of the 7 major genotypes of hepatitis C, 1, 2 and 3 are the most common. In the USA, genotype 1 is the most common, while the most prevalent in Europe are genotypes 2 and 3. In the Indian subcontinent genotype 3 is the most common.<br />

Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference keynote Monday is sure to have pleased some and disappointed others. At the annual confab of software developers for Macs and iDevices, CEO Tim Cook and other executives presented new versions of Mac OS X for computers and iOS for iPhones and iPads. Both systems appear to borrow from one another liberally, evolving to work in tandem much more elegantly.<br />

But there was another, arguably more radical product on display: Apple itself. There was no slick marketing video extolling its virtues. And there was no explicit mention of its “magical” changes by any of the executives that padded into the spotlight. But it was there, center stage at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This is clearly a different (and perhaps more interesting) company than the one Steve Jobs left behind when he died three years ago. It seems a company that, increasingly, reflects the ideas, taste and sensibility of a group, rather than an individual.<br />
<br />
Apple observers even got a sense of what the company’s employees think of the question last year when it introduced a Lilliputian new desktop, the Mac Pro. Unveiling the machine, marketing boss Phil Schiller said curtly, “Can’t innovate my ass.” And last month when Internet Software and Services chief Eddy Cue said “We’ve got the best product pipeline that I’ve seen in my 25 years at Apple,” it was a not-so-subtle-nod to investors and fanboys not to worry—some cool stuff is on the way. Still, the fact that the company’s last all-new product, the iPad, came out in 2010 is going to be catnip for doubters until the world finds out what those products actually are.<br />
<br />
But where many people have been looking for a major new product—an iWatch, say, or an Apple-branded television set—the real innovation may have been in who runs the company and how. Under Jobs, Apple was a firm that largely brought in executives from less well known or glamorous outfits and grew them internally. Bob Mansfield, the technology guru, came from Raycer Graphics. Scott Forstall and Craig Federighi, the software guys, came with Jobs from Next. Designers like Tony Fadell and Jonathan Ive were essentially consultants from smaller firms who were convinced to sign on full time. And current CEO Tim Cook came from Compaq. (The only exception that comes to mind: Ron Johnson, who had a well-covered career at Target before helping create the Apple Stores.)<br />
<br />
But consider Apple’s executive bench today. Angela Ahrendts, the former Burberry CEO, is planning an overhaul to Apple’s juggernaut retail division. Paul Deneve, the one-time CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, is likely helping with the company’s wearable devices. And there are Apple’s two newest recruits, Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre,who are coming on as part of the company’s $3 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics. These are all executives who, by virtue of their star power, are likely to have a higher profile of their own.<br />
<br />
There are a lot of obvious reasons this is the case, not least of which that Apple is a much stronger, richer, more attractive company to work for than it was in the late 1990s. Then, Wired ran its famous “Pray” cover; now, it’s number 5 on the brand-new Fortune 500 list. And yet, even during the presentation this morning you could sense the shift. Keynotes have always had special guests and humorous asides, but today they seemed a little looser, a little more relaxed. Software head Craig Federighi called from backstage with a somewhat ham-handed hair and makeup malfunction, for instance.<br />

Private transport company SpaceX will unveil on Thursday the next version of its Dragon spacecraft, designed to ferry NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station.<br />
<br />
SpaceX founder and serial entrepreneur Elon Musk will introduce the Dragon V2 from the company's manufacturing facility in Hawthorne, California, starting at 10:00 p.m. ET.<br />
<br />
The media event with be streamed live at this link.<br />

The Dragon V2 is an upgraded version of the Dragon cargo ship, which has successfully delivered food and other supplies to the space station three times since 2012.<br />
<br />
NASA has been entirely dependent on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft to get American astronauts to and from the space station since the agency retired its space shuttle fleet in 2011. This comes at a cost of around $71 million per person. The need for private "space taxis" has become even more crucial as tensions between the U.S. and Russia continue to run high over the crisis in Ukraine.<br />
<br />
Space X is one of three companies that has received funding through NASA's Commercial Crew Transportation Capability program to develop a space taxi with the goal of having one ready to fly crew to the space station by 2017.<br />
<br />
Other competitors include Boeing, which recently released interior renderings for its manned space capsule named CST-100, and the Sierra Nevada Corporation, which has been designing the Dream Chaser. SpaceX may have a leg up on the competition since they've already successfully pitched and won a cargo contract with NASA for the original Dragon.<br />
<br />
The Dragon V2 will be outfitted with SuperDraco thruster engines, which "will be able to provide astronauts with the unprecedented ability to escape from danger at any point during the ascent trajectory," SpaceX said.<br />
<br />
Dragon 2.0 can fit up to seven astronauts, whereas the Soyuz capsules can only carry three.<br />

Vlad Tepes the 3rd you most likely don’t recognize the name but I am sure you recall the famous name Dracula. The Prince wasn’t just known as Dracula he was also Vlad The Impaler. The real story about this individual is much more fascinating than the movies led on.  But that is only if you’re into extra gory things unlike the whole draining a humans blood to feed thing. That in my opinion is boring. It is way more intense.<br />
<br />

This man was a cruel person and did terrible things. In your opinion the worst serial killer you can think of and multiply that by 10,000. He was a merciless man towards all of his enemies. Although Vlad never lived in this castle for some reason or another his legend still haunts this establishment.<br />
<br />
Allow me to talk about something better. The Bran castle also known as Dracula’s castle is actually for sale! If I had the money if only if only!! This medieval fortress a whole 22 acres and 57 rooms but wait…no bathrooms?! It is indeed, on the market. The current price tag is... well there is no specific price tag on this. The Romanian government placed a bid at $80 million but the most important thing is that this amazing historical monument is taking care of.<br />
<br />
If you have loads of money and are fascinated by this legendary spot on earth…need I say more? Endless possibilities here people. Shout out to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt...you know you want it.<br />

39 years ago may 6, 1975 Omaha, NE experienced a mysterious quiet sound and then the major city was hit by an f4 tornado. A family getting ready for supper noticed the strange weather throughout the day.<br />
<br />
Humid and quiet not a single bird chirp. Back then the weather alerts were not as advanced as they are today in the year 2014. All the television said was to prepare for potentially bad weather. The Doppler radar was not anything near as descriptive as it is today.
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/GCN84CTj8Zw?rel=0" width="100%"></iframe>

A mother making pigs in a blanket and Kool-aid for the kids wanted to do a practice drill. The oldest daughter Tammy was to grab the dog. The second oldest, was her son Scott, he had to grab the cat and the youngest, five year old Tracy was only to follow her older siblings… Mom, Linda had that under control she was going to help Tracy.<br />
<br />
If the weather escaladed They all had a job and they were to go downstairs into the basement and get under a mattress. After their practice drill, supper was served. The sky turned green and seconds later the sirens sounded!<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/a8maBhI9qiA?rel=0" width="100%"></iframe>
A couple bites of food and all hell broke loose. It was utter chaos The dog freaked started chasing the cat Tracy was hysterical and poor Scott fell down the stairs. Ken the husband was out on a job and was heading home. He didn’t know why everyone was parking under bridges and kept driving.<br />
<br />
Linda’s mother was working at Khol’s at the time and says she seen three tornados collide into one.
This monster began in Sarpy county and finally lifted over the Benson area Westgate was completely demolished. Three lives were taken. 300+ million dollars in damage.

Tonight we may see the same.<br />

Not long after the unexpected death of her mother at 36, an Omaha child saw someone new come into her life. “All I remember,” said Danielle Dubuc-Pedersen, “is looking out the window when a taxi pulled up and an elegant lady got out. I didn't know who she was.” The woman was her aunt Mary Jane, her mother's sister, who had grown up in Omaha. She was unfamiliar to Danielle, only 4½, because she had lived out of the country. U.S. government jobs had taken her to Guam, Japan, Paris and the United Nations in New York, among other places. She arrived home in that taxi in 1959 after flying from Belgium, where she worked in the U.S. Embassy. At 30, she was well into an exciting career. But she was about to embark on a much different one — helping to raise her sister's five children, then ages 3 to 12.<br />
<br />
As Danielle said in admiration and a bit of awe: “You give up a career traveling all over the world, <br />

doing what you love, to raise your sister's kids. She never married. She was here for her family, and she did everything a parent has to do.” One August day 55 years ago, Gloria fell and skinned a knee. It became infected, she slipped into toxic shock and within three days she died. After graduating from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Mary Jane had entered government service, which took her to exciting places. Who knows where it would have led? She didn't talk a lot about what she had done, but apparently it eventually entailed supervising administrative support staff for diplomats.<br />
<br />
Mary Jane also provided financial support. Her brother, David, a real estate developer, found a plot near 93rd and Pacific Streets, and helped Mary Jane get a five-bedroom house built. It became a home for herself, for her mother and her children and for the five Dubuc kids — 13 people in all. She said, 'I may not be your mother, but I am your guardian who takes care of you, and I can be your confidante and your friend.' ”<br />

Ted, who worked 40 years in the computer industry, lives in Huntington Beach, Calif. His daughter, Nicole Dubuc, now 35, worked as a child actress in such TV shows as “Our House” and “Major Dad,” and today is a writer. At her funeral, she was described as a disciplinarian, matchmaker, friend — and a mother, even though never she claimed that last role. “She was exceptionally bright,” Ted said. “She was also very religious, and she knew that if God had called her to this, then that was what she would do. She never looked back and never expressed regrets.” “She is my hero,” Danielle said. “I don't know how anybody could do what she did. This is the end of an era.”<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 24px;">Tips on buying cars both new and used.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">As I surf Yahoo each day I am surprised at how many guides
and tip articles are out there. Lets add one more! So many things come into
play when buying a new car, Price reliability, features, styles… And with all
auto makers stepping up their game all their choices can be dizzying.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">Okay lets start from the top</span><br />
<h4>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA3HQyu6yywlCWUcPfPMwz6H4M6Xn95EUWMXFrP4-77gap1ajD9DusuOZfz8YCdy8yzRx7bsZkWoofhjAdmuszUX4SRHiM-EUC1G-hEiJfa-SGKwUNWyq-TCMBYdg9IBM6Irten2V_d-w/s1600/Cars-Lamborghini-Free-Wallpaper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA3HQyu6yywlCWUcPfPMwz6H4M6Xn95EUWMXFrP4-77gap1ajD9DusuOZfz8YCdy8yzRx7bsZkWoofhjAdmuszUX4SRHiM-EUC1G-hEiJfa-SGKwUNWyq-TCMBYdg9IBM6Irten2V_d-w/s1600/Cars-Lamborghini-Free-Wallpaper.jpg" width="320" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 1. Salesman are human just like you so no need to be
apprehensive talking to one. The less pushy they are and the more knowledgeable
the better.</span></h4>
<h4>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 2. Do your research.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Know not only what the 3rd parties are saying about the cars
you are looking at but do research on the dealerships you want to visit. Know
if they are locally owned or if they are a Nationwide company. A benefit to
dealing with a local company you know your money stays local, many Dealers
donate not only time but lots of money to the local charities.</span></h4>
<h4>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 3. Check overall cost of ownership. If you can save 4-5
thousand when you first buy a specific car over another no one would complain
right!? Now if you keep said car for a 3-5 years and you end up not only
spending 500-1000 more each year to keep the car running properly you can
easily rack up that 4-5 thousand in unexpected costs. Also that car that was
4-5 thousand cheaper when it comes time to trade it in, guess what it’s worth
4-5 thousand less than the other… Now you lost 4 thousand in resale and it cost
another 4 thousand to operate and maintain over 3-4 years, now you lost 3-4
thousand dollars!</span></h4>
<h4>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 4. Go to the dealership knowing what you can afford.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>No one on either side wants you in a
car you cannot afford and are going to default on some time during the loan.
You credit gets hit HARD and your chance of qualifying for another auto loan
are slim. That would most likely keep you from buying another car from that
dealer and keep you from referring friends and family to them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Be aware they are a business and will
try and make a profit, if they are professional knowing their product and
providing excellent customer service why shouldn’t they. Now I say profit I
mean a FAIR profit no dealer should make 10 thousand dollars off any one deal!
If you feel you had a great experience and were well taken care of they deserve
to be paid right? Many sales people are with their dealerships for extended
periods of time and this is their career. You tip servers 15-20% and your real
estate agent has a set commission why not compensate your sales professional
(if they treat you as a professional should). If you get your finances in order
before going in you will be able to streamline your overall time at the
dealership, which brings me to …</span></h4>
<h4>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 5. Buying a car takes time it is the second biggest
purchase of your life after all. Know the average car buying process takes 4-6
hours depending on your state and how much research you have done before hand.
Don’t expect to be able to go pick a car pay and leave like a trip to your
local supermarket. The State has many forms that need to be filled out properly
for tax reasons. Also each dealership has a load of paperwork going to it’s
actual Corporate office. Be patient and if you need to break the deal up into a
few shorter trips they should work with you.</span></h4>
<h4>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"># 6. The final tip…. Ready for it…..<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">    </span>HAVE FUN!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>You are buying a new vehicle and are
spending your hard earned money you deserve the best car at a fair price and a
great experience! Accept nothing less and once you find a dealership and more
importantly a sales person who can deliver all of the above you may have found
the right one.</span></h4>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhMKFiBS9sGnzNA4G7Hb-m2Tflc4kOBpDF1BL5gjWguRh-fSAcZiFqDwKEeXBk-YSmp2QF2J3LXva_YQXG_ruDjAHO9cN6LDf2MiYSUugc1plILHe8z6kuA2NbpTiBJb9VWH6ql8vLZI/s1600/wpid-ugly_people.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhMKFiBS9sGnzNA4G7Hb-m2Tflc4kOBpDF1BL5gjWguRh-fSAcZiFqDwKEeXBk-YSmp2QF2J3LXva_YQXG_ruDjAHO9cN6LDf2MiYSUugc1plILHe8z6kuA2NbpTiBJb9VWH6ql8vLZI/s1600/wpid-ugly_people.jpeg" width="232" /></a>It has me thinking. So we all know about Genetically Modified foods, plants and animals right? You know like a Liger, a mix between a lion and a tiger oh my! Yes they really do exist thanks to genetic modification.
 We have all of these mysteries like big foot, the Loch ness monster, the jersey devil and the Moth Man ECT... What if they all exist but were GM experiments gone wrong, wouldn’t that be nuts?!
Okay but seriously I would really like to get back on the main subject here!
Lets start with pros and cons of genetic engineering in humans. Some see it as a way to perfect our future by weeding out the bad like certain hereditary problems before babies are born. Having greater intelligence, strength or a much longer than average life span. I can see If people would consider this a con because it is immortality. But I think it would be badass if the movie X-men was real. Now for some cons, religion plays a big part for most. “Playing god” is a big no no. It takes one mommy and one daddy to make a baby or “babies,” that is how it has been since the beginning of time. However if scientists are making babies with two mommies and one daddy then that just goes against nature and pretty much everything we know. Hitler, remember him? He wanted the perfect race. Blonde hair, blue eyes. With GE that can be done, need I say more on why some may think that would be a con? With designer babies parents can pick out really any trait they want their children to have. Or even flaws that the parents see when they look in the mirror such as a big nose or a lazy eye…

I would like to know your thoughts on human genetic engineering along with genetic modification. Also I would like to see thoughts on the article below. Click on the link…do it!!!

What are the first thoughts that come to mind when you hear the name Miley Cyrus??? Hannah Montana? A nice girl acting as an appropriate role model for young kids, or the twerking, tongue always sticking out askew, wild never tame Miley? </div>

Don’t get me wrong Miley had made some nice movies along with her hit Disney T.V. show such as Big Fish, The Last Song and “LOL”. Now having a daughter myself I can only imagine how her father Billy Ray Cyrus feels about this new path she is taking on. Talking about smoking pot and doing “molly”, drinking, “twerking” blah blah blah. Who is this person? Talk about being rebellious and finding who you are but she is being hella extreme about it. Now this is my personal feeling but I would like to know how others feel about her. For instance what is the point of spending large amounts of money to fund a music video with her swinging naked on a wrecking ball? Not to mention making out with it. Bestiality is bad but what would you call this? Or her new video called adore you where she is under sheets with a video camera, memories of a controversial Paris Hilton sex tape come to mind as I first saw this, and she is yet again half naked fondling herself, putting her hands in between her legs and drawing attention to her mouth any provocatively way possible. What kind of message is the music industry trying to send?<br />

It is said that cells exposed to a certain type of acid will transform into the base cellular building blocks of life (STEM CELLS). The potential for cures to terminal illnesses could be within reach. Illness could be a thing of the past.<br />

The stimulation of a cell can completely change their character to revert to a primordial state (aka Stem Cell)<br />

<h3>
Study Says New Method Could Be a Quicker Source of Stem Cells</h3>
<div class="p5">

<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
A surprising study has found that a simple acid bath might turn cells in the body into stem cells that could one day be used for tissue repair and other medical treatments.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The technique, performed only with cells from mice, might turn out to be a quicker and easier source of multipurpose stem cells than methods now in use.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
“If reproducible in humans, this could be a paradigm changer,” said Dr. Robert Lanza, a stem-cell scientist who was not involved in the work. Dr. Lanza, who is chief scientific officer of the biotechnology company Advanced Cell Technology, said the technique might also make it easier to clone animals or even people, raising ethical questions.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The new technique was developed by researchers at the Riken Center for Development Biology in Kobe, Japan, and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. <a href="http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v505/n7485/full/nature12968.html"><span class="s2">Two</span></a> <a href="http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v505/n7485/full/nature12969.html" rel="nofollow"><span class="s2">papers</span></a> by the researchers were published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
Some experts expressed caution, saying more needed to be known about the new approach and that existing techniques for making stem cells had improved markedly in recent years.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
“The existing methods are already quite advanced,” said Sheng Ding, a scientist at the University of California, San Francisco, and the affiliated Gladstone Institutes. “It’s too early to say this is better, safer or more practical.”</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
Certain stem cells can be easily grown in the laboratory and can turn into any type of cell in the body, which is called pluripotency. Researchers think these stem cells may one day be used to repair damaged cells and organs in the body, though experiments trying this in people are in very early stages.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
At first, interest focused on so-called embryonic stem cells, which could be obtained at first only by destroying human embryos, which is ethically contentious.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
Several years ago, Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University in Japan and other scientists developed a way to turn cells from the body, such as skin or blood cells, into stem cells, avoiding the need to destroy embryos. That work won Dr. Yamanaka a Nobel Prize.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
These cells, called induced pluripotent stem cells, have an additional advantage over embryonic cells in that they can be created from a particular patient. Therefore, any cells derived from those stem cells and transplanted back into the patient would not be rejected by the patient’s immune system.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
But creating those induced cells requires genetic changes to the cells, raising some questions about whether they can be used for medical therapy.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The new technique does away with deliberate genetic changes. Instead, it involves subjecting specialized cells, like blood or skin cells, to stress.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The researchers in Kobe and Boston tried various stresses, including squeezing the cells, but found that bathing the cells for half an hour in a mildly acidic solution seemed to work best. The technique worked for cells taken from various organs of newborn mice, but the efficiency was highest using white blood cells.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The mice from which the cells were taken had been genetically engineered so their cells would glow green if Oct4, a gene associated with pluripotent cells, was active.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
After the acid bath, the cells were grown in culture. Many died from the exposure to acid, but among those that survived, many were glowing green by the seventh day. The researchers called these STAP cells, standing for stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotency.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
To prove the STAP cells could indeed turn into every cell type in the body, researchers injected the cells into early mice embryos. These embryos grew into mice, called chimeras, with cells derived from the STAP cells in all tissues of their bodies. The mice could reproduce and pass along the genetic characteristics from those cells.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
The fact that descendants of the STAP cells could function in mice and their offspring also provided evidence that the cells were not abnormal.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
“I was really surprised the first time we saw the chimeric mice,” said Haruko Obokata, a biologist at Riken and the lead author of the two papers in Nature. She had worked on the project for several years, at first as a researcher at Brigham and Women’s under Dr. Charles A. Vacanti.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
If the technique is to be used to treat patients, it would have to work with cells taken from adult humans, not newborn mice. Dr. Obokata said the technique worked using cells from older mice, but not as efficiently. She said researchers were testing if the technique worked with human cells.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
One problem with the STAP cells was that they did not last long in the laboratory and could not reproduce well. But the researchers found they could grow the cells in a different culture medium and get them to change into cells that could replenish themselves easily. They called these STAP stem cells.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
One surprising finding, the researchers said, was that the STAP cells could form material for the placenta, not just the embryo. That could theoretically allow STAP cells to be used to clone animals, said Dr. Lanza. The current technique to clone involves a complicated process that has not worked for humans.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
Scientists said it would be interesting to understand just how and why stress leads already specialized cells to revert to a more primordial state.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<div class="p5">
There is some speculation this could be a response that has evolved to help organisms survive stress. But a reversion to stemlike cells is not known to happen in people’s bodies when they are exposed to stress.</div>
<div class="p5">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="p5">
Dr. Ding said that since stem cells could form tumors, the findings might help explain why stress appeared to increase the risk of cancer.</div>
<div class="p5">

<h3>
Bidirectional developmental potential in reprogrammed cells with acquired pluripotency</h3>
<div class="p4">
We recently discovered an unexpected phenomenon of somatic cell reprogramming into pluripotent cells by exposure to sublethal stimuli, which we call stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotency (STAP)<b>.</b> </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
This reprogramming does not require nuclear transfer<span class="s1"> </span>or genetic manipulation<b>.</b> </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
Here we report that reprogrammed STAP cells, unlike embryonic stem (ES) cells, can contribute to both embryonic and placental tissues, as seen in a blastocyst injection assay. </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
Mouse STAP cells lose the ability to contribute to the placenta as well as trophoblast marker expression on converting into ES-like stem cells by treatment with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF). </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
In contrast, when cultured with Fgf4, STAP cells give rise to proliferative stem cells with enhanced trophoblastic characteristics. </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
Notably, unlike conventional trophoblast stem cells, the Fgf4-induced stem cells from STAP cells contribute to both embryonic and placental tissues <i>in vivo</i> and transform into ES-like cells when cultured with LIF-containing medium. </div>
<div class="p4">
<br /></div>
<div class="p4">
Taken together, the developmental potential of STAP cells, shown by chimaera formation and <i>in vitro</i> cell conversion, indicates that they represent a unique state of pluripotency.</div>
